Which clay is best for your skin?

We are big advocates of natural clay in skincare hence why most of our sponges contain at least one variety! They have been used for centuries for their incredible purifying properties, so it made complete sense for us to infuse our konjac sponges with them for the ultimate skin cleansing experience.

You may be aware that there are many different types of clay, this essentially comes down to their mineral composition, which varies depending on their origin. They are all enriched with minerals such as magnesium, iron, silica, potassium and calcium, but the exact amounts differ in each type. For instance, some clays are more purifying than others, whilst others are known to be more soothing. Each type can provide the skin with different benefits so we will take you through the 4 we use in our formulations and why.

French Pink Clay

This one is especially good for those who suffer with sensitive, irritated skin. Naturally rich in hydrating minerals, silica and iron oxide, this red and white clay blend is the mildest purifier of all French clays. It has been shown to improve the skin’s elasticity and cell renewal function for a brighter, refreshed appearance. More importantly it has the ability to reduce inflammation and soothe whilst gently purifying the skin without aggravating conditions such as acne, eczema and rosacea. Yellow Kaolin Clay

Compatible with most skin types due to its mild nature, this is considered to be particularly beneficially for those with dry skin, eczema or sun damage due to its strengthening and repairing properties. Enriched with silicon dioxide this is also thought to help stimulate the production of collagen within the skin and help slow down the ageing process. Despite its gentle composition, it is powerful at deep cleansing pores and decongesting without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. Shop our Yellow Kaolin Clay range here.

French Green Clay

The most astringent and purifying out of all the clays we use; this type of clay is generally sourced from mud found beside the sea or mineral springs and has effective oil absorbing properties. Making it ideal for oily, congested and combination skin types. There are studies to show it also inhibits bacteria growth which helps reduce the formation of breakouts, leading to a clearer, fresher complexion! Shop our French Green Clay range here.

French Red Clay

If your skin is looking a little dull and lacklustre then velvety red clay is where it’s at for a rejuvenated, refined complexion. High in iron oxide it stimulates blood circulation and accelerates the skins regeneration process, leaving a glowing complexion behind. It’s toning and hydrating properties promote softer skin and smooth the appearance of wrinkles. This type of clay is also brilliant at relieving irritation, reducing blotchiness and uneven skin tone. If you have rosacea, psoriasis or broken capillaries then it’s worth giving it a go. Shop our French Red Clay range here.
